Dr. Molly Lee

Professor of Anthropology and Curator, Emerita

WHEREAS Dr. Molly Lee has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1995 to 2008; and

WHEREAS Dr. Lee has helped cultivate a new generation of academics, researchers and artists through her active involvement as a teacher and advisor in formal and informal settings; and has mentored and advised some thirty undergraduate, master's and doctoral students; and

WHEREAS Dr. Lee has been a prolific author and researcher, responsible for writing, editing, compiling or reviewing more than eighty books and articles, and producing two videos; and has presented her work at more than thirty professional meetings and conferences throughout the State, Nation and world; and has gained the reputation as one of the world's leading authorities on Alaska Native baskets; and

WHEREAS Dr. Lee's recognition of Alaska Natives' contributions to the understanding and preservation of northern artistic traditions, and her efforts to include the Alaska Native perspective in studying and cataloging those traditions, with special regard for the collections at the University of Alaska Museum of the North, have ensured a richer, more nuanced source of material for future generations to discover and enjoy;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Molly Lee for her extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Lee and as evidence of the University's desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Molly Lee as Professor of Anthropology and Curator, Emerita; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Molly Lee, and conveyed to Dr. Lee on this day of May 10, 2009.
