Dr. Joan F. Braddock

Professor of Biology and Dean, Emerita

WHEREAS Dr. Joan F. Braddock has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1977 to 1978, and 1980 to 2009; and

WHEREAS Dr. Braddock has been a vital member of the UAF community for more than three decades, as a student, faculty member and administrator; and has shown an unfailing dedication to students and the University's academic mission; and has served as a role model for a generation of women in the biological sciences; and, as an advisor for fifteen graduate students now in the midst of productive careers, has contributed to the sustained growth of her chosen field; and

WHEREAS Dr. Braddock has distinguished herself as a respected global leader in the study of microbial degradation of hydrocarbons; and has led a highly productive research career that has resulted in more than forty peer-reviewed publications and numerous presentations at prestigious scientific meetings from regional to international levels; and

WHEREAS Dr. Braddock has maintained high standards of leadership, integrity, excellence and dedication, through her extraordinary service to the University in many roles, including Department Chair, Associate Director, Interim Dean and Dean; and has served on countless committees at the University as well as on numerous panels and working groups for professional organizations, in each case exemplifying veracity and respect for others;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Joan F. Braddock for her extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Braddock and as evidence of the University's desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Joan F. Braddock as Professor of Biology and Dean, Emerita; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Joan F. Braddock, and conveyed to Dr. Braddock on this day of May 10, 2009.
