Dr. Mitchell G. Roth
Professor of Computer Science, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Mitchell G. Roth has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1983 to 2008; and
WHEREAS Dr. Roth has taught a prodigious number of courses, ranging from introductory classes to advanced courses at the graduate level; and has been active in working with computer science students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, encouraging them to achieve their research potential; and has chaired or served on more than fifty master’s degree committees and on seven doctoral degree committees; and
WHEREAS Dr. Roth has secured nearly two dozen research grants and has authored or co-authored nearly three dozen publications and reports; and has ably represented the University at numerous conferences and workshops around the country, frequently as a speaker or instructor; and
WHEREAS Dr. Roth was instrumental in helping foster the growth of the computer science degree program, including course development and student recruitment and retention; and energetically assumed responsibility for the technical support of the computer science facilities of the departments of Mathematics and Computer Science; and has served the University in many different capacities, including as department chair and student advisor;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Mitchell G. Roth for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Roth and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Mitchell G. Roth as Professor of Computer Science, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Mitchell G. Roth, and conveyed to Dr. Roth on this day of May 11, 2008.
