Ms. Sue McHenry
Academic Advisor, Emerita
WHEREAS Ms. Sue McHenry has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction from 1972 to 2008; and
WHEREAS Ms. McHenry has made outstanding contributions to the University through her role as advisor with the Rural Student Services program; and has constantly sought ways to create supportive networks for students; and has dedicated her career to recruiting, advising and mentoring countless students, many of whom credit their academic and personal accomplishments to her guidance; and
WHEREAS Ms. McHenry has been instrumental in developing the University chapter of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, which has been named national chapter of the year five times under her mentorship; and has helped coordinate the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program; and whose leadership in both these programs has directly resulted in their outstanding success and the success of the students involved in the programs; and
WHEREAS Ms. McHenry has thoroughly and expertly helped students from rural and urban communities navigate their way through University systems and processes; and whose unwavering support, warmth and honesty have bolstered the confidence of many students who may otherwise have stumbled, but who instead achieved their goals and now contribute positively to the State’s rural leadership and communities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Ms. Sue McHenry for her extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Ms. McHenry and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Ms. Sue McHenry as Academic Advisor, Emerita; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Ms. Sue McHenry, and conveyed to Ms. McHenry on this day of May 11, 2008.
