Dr. Shusun Li

Research Professor of Geophysics, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Shusun Li has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1990 to 2008; and

WHEREAS Dr. Li has advised and mentored six graduate students at the University as their major professor; and has provided leadership to many more graduate students as a thesis committee member; and has further shared his expertise while teaching several graduate courses and assisting his colleagues in the development of other courses; and

WHEREAS Dr. Li is greatly admired for his profound knowledge of remote sensing theory and advanced skills in numerical modeling, field measurements, digital image processing and satellite data; and has made substantial contributions to applications of satellite remote sensing data to snow, ice, atmosphere and forest research studies; and has presented his findings and analyses in more than one hundred publications; and

WHEREAS Dr. Li has demonstrated superior grantsmanship in attracting external funds for his work, allowing him to support a number of graduate students, a necessary requirement for attracting and training a new generation of scientists; and has pursued cutting-edge research that has brought renown to both the Geophysical Institute and the University; and has advanced scientific knowledge through collaboration with organizations and institutes around the world;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Shusun Li for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Li and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Shusun Li as Research Professor of Geophysics, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Shusun Li, and conveyed to Dr. Li on this day of May 11, 2008.
