Dr. Donald E. Kramer
Professor of Fisheries, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Donald E. Kramer has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1980 to 2008; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kramer has taught dozens of courses and workshops on seafood safety, capably translating relevant food technology concepts to commercial fishermen and processors throughout the State of Alaska; and in so doing has served as a vital link between the University’s Marine Advisory Program and Alaska’s fishing communities; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kramer has conducted research in the handling, storage and processing of seafood, areas of particular importance to Alaska’s maritime economy; and has co-authored three books and co-edited a fourth, and has written or co-written nearly eighty reports and abstracts; and was one of the primary authors of a manual, adopted by nations around the world, that serves as a guide for ensuring safety in the seafood supply; and
WHEREAS Dr. Kramer expanded the size and scope of the Marine Advisory Program by securing new faculty positions and increasing the geographical distribution of agents and specialists; and has organized and conducted hands-on training programs that prepare rural Alaskans to work in seafood processing; and has ably served on the University’s Faculty Senate and other University committees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Kramer for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Kramer and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Donald E. Kramer as Professor of Fisheries, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Donald E. Kramer, and conveyed to Dr. Kramer on this day of May 11, 2008.
