Dr. Lillian Corti
Professor of English, Emerita
WHEREAS Dr. Lillian Corti has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks in teaching, research and public service with distinction from 1992 to 2008; and
WHEREAS Dr. Corti has created an intellectual environment where the interplay of literature, politics, history, culture and psychology reveals the richness and complexity of the human condition; and has devoted her wide-ranging academic pursuits and expertise to greatly enhancing the educational experience of her students, encouraging them to pursue similarly eclectic yet cohesive interests of their own; and
WHEREAS Dr. Corti has produced a noteworthy portfolio of work on a remarkable variety of subjects, including the literature of ancient Greece and Rome, Renaissance Europe, and modern Africa and United States; and has translated two novels and edited a third translation; and has undertaken comparative analyses of literary works and traditions spanning time and geography to explore their similarities and dissimilarities, and the evolution or dissolution of cultural mores and touchstones; and
WHEREAS Dr. Corti has been a valued and active member of the University at the Department and Statewide levels, serving on numerous committees, including governance, graduate programs, and academic and student development; and in addition to her teaching duties, has served as Department Head of the Women’s Studies program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Corti for her extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Corti and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Lillian Corti as Professor of English, Emerita; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Lillian Corti, and conveyed to Dr. Corti on this day of May 11, 2008.
