Mr. Arvid Weflen

Professor of Aviation Maintenance Technology, Emeritus

WHEREAS Mr. Arvid Weflen has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1980 to 2007; and

WHEREAS Mr. Weflen has been a distinguished member of the University faculty for nearly thirty years; and has taught with energy and enthusiasm the full range of aviation maintenance and technology courses; and is respected by students and representatives from government and industry for his quiet competence, humility, concern for students and commitment to excellence in his work; and

WHEREAS Mr. Weflen has carefully and conscientiously advanced his own professional development in the field of aviation technology and maintenance by completing more than eight hundred hours of formal industry training classes, thereby emphasizing to his students through example his dedication to achieving and retaining the highest degree of excellence; and

WHEREAS Mr. Weflen has been widely recognized for his service to the University as an advocate for the career and technical disciplines; and is highly regarded by his colleagues for his steady mentorship; and was instrumental in planning and implementing programs at the Hutchison Institute of Technology following a significant remodeling and in the creation and development of the Tanana Valley Campus' Aviation Maintenance Program, which has served the needs of students and employers in Interior Alaska and throughout the State;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Arvid Weflen for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Weflen and as evidence of the University's desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Arvid Weflen as Professor of Aviation Maintenance Technology, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. Arvid Weflen, and conveyed to Mr. Weflen on this day of May 13, 2007.
