Dr. Craig S. Lingle

Research Professor of Geophysics, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Craig S. Lingle has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1990 to 2007; and

WHEREAS Dr. Lingle is recognized as an authority and pioneer in the fields of glaciology and ice sheet modeling, and in the use of remote sensing in these disciplines; and whose career has been characterized by the groundbreaking nature of his research and its eventual incorporation into the standard practices of his scientific peers; and whose collaborative efforts have resulted in one of the most advanced ice sheet models currently in use; and

WHEREAS Dr. Lingle has generously given his time as a supportive advisor to University graduate students and to his colleagues; and whose skills as a mentor have assisted young scientists in navigating both the scientific and fundraising demands of life as a researcher; and whose efforts as a leader have helped shape the next generation of geophysicists; and

WHEREAS Dr. Lingle's work has not only brought great credit to the University of Alaska Fairbanks but has also furthered scientific understanding of the role of glaciers and ice sheets in global climate change; and has through his service and leadership fostered a model of productive collaboration among scientific disciplines at the University and beyond;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Lingle for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Lingle and as evidence of the University's desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Craig S. Lingle as Research Professor of Geophysics, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Craig S. Lingle, and conveyed to Dr. Lingle on this day of May 13, 2007.
