Thesis: Deg Xinag Oral Traditions: Reconnecting Indigenous Language and Education Through Traditional Narratives
This research presents an interdisciplinary analysis of the linguistic and epistemological structures associated with a complex cosmological Deg Hit’an narrative, “The Man and Wife” told by the late Belle Deacon of Grayling, Alaska. A detailed examination of the language contributes to the development of culturally appropriate indigenous language education programs.

Thesis: Language Switching on English Compositions of Latino Students in Alaska and Puerto Rico
This study describes how the first language of Latino students influenced their composing process when writing in English. Data obtained from students in Alaska and Puerto Rico suggest that a lack of linguistic competence in English is a contributing factor for switching to Spanish in English compositions.

Thesis: How the Devils Went Deaf: Ethnomycology, Cuisine and Perception of Landscape in the Russian North
The given work presents a study in ethnomycology—a field of inquiry concerned with human beliefs and practices associated with mushrooms—carried out in the Bering Strait area of Chukotka, Russia. It explains how local ethnomycological ideas are deeply connected with multiple aspects of identity, cross-cultural contact and social change.
