Dr. Edmond C. Packee
Professor of Forest Management, Emeritus
WHEREAS Dr. Edmond C. Packee has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1983 to 2006; and
WHEREAS Dr. Packee has been a diligent and conscientious teacher concerned with expanding both his students' intellectual horizons and their post-graduate professional opportunities, so that many have gone on to successful land management and forestry careers; and has taught a full range of courses from the introductory through the graduate levels, as well as individual study classes and internships; and has served as principal advisor for nine graduate theses and on nine additional graduate thesis committees; and
WHEREAS Dr. Packee has been a leading figure in establishing data collection and study projects on the forests of northern Alaska, providing immensely valuable information for scientists, researchers and land use managers; and has analyzed topics from the purely scientific, as in the establishment of data for monitoring long-term patterns of forest change, to the practical, in the identification of potential commercial development of a variety of forest products; and
WHEREAS Dr. Packee has been a respected liaison between the University and other government agencies and institutions; and has been both a wise counselor and attentive listener in the creation and implementation of many inter-agency programs and initiatives; and has further benefitted the University as a participant on a variety of committees that addressed issues at all levels; and has worked assiduously to add his expertise to state, national and international land-use programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Edmond C. Packee for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Packee and as evidence of the University's desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Edmond C. Packee as Professor of Forest Management, Emeritus; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Edmond C. Packee, and conveyed to Dr. Packee on this day of May 14, 2006.
