2005 Professors Emeriti Dr. Robert F. Carlson WHEREAS Dr. Robert F. Carlson has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1965 to 2005; and WHEREAS Dr. Carlson has earned high praise within the Alaska engineering community for his expertise and enthusiasm as an educator; and has mentored hundreds of students, fellow faculty members, local business leaders and community members across the State of Alaska; and has successfully guided more than twenty graduate students through the completion of their degrees, with many of these students now serving as key industry leaders in Alaska; and WHEREAS Dr. Carlson has conducted innovative research dedicated to solving problems related to cold-region engineering; and has published more than one hundred scholarly articles and research reports in prestigious publications; and has made presentations at numerous regional, national and international conferences to share his research findings with others; and WHEREAS Dr. Carlson's professional expertise has influenced and enriched the University's engineering program and whose dedication to excellence has energized the engineering profession in Alaska; and whose many exemplary contributions have been recognized through the 2001 Emil Usibelli Distinguished Service Award; and has served prominent roles in regional and national engineering societies; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Robert F. Carlson for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Carlson and as evidence of the University's desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Robert F. Carlson as Professor of Civil Engineering, Emeritus; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Robert F. Carlson, and conveyed to Dr. Carlson on this day of May 15, 2005. |
