2004 EMERITI RESOLUTION WHEREAS Dr. Margaret K. Wood has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1979 to 2004; and WHEREAS Dr. Wood's 25 years of dedication and devotion have provided access to higher education to students in small towns and villages throughout Alaska ; and whose foresight in developing and incorporating technologies into distance education programs has been instrumental in the university's ability to deliver associate degree programs to remote audiences; and WHEREAS Dr. Wood has served the university and the state with distinction while supervising the Alaska Native Materials Development Center to produce customized learning tools for village council administrators; and has created new bilingual curricula to enhance village-based instruction and Alaska Native teacher aide training; and WHEREAS Dr. Wood has sought to expand the university's presence in rural Alaska through a variety of innovative, cooperative initiatives, to the tremendous benefit of regional economic diversification and workforce development; and whose professional reputation, readiness to assume new responsibilities and great loyalty to the university have provided an outstanding model of leadership for the rural campuses; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Margaret K. Wood for her extensive contributions to both the state of Alaska and the university; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Wood and as evidence of the university's desire that her identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Margaret K. Wood as Director of the Bristol Bay Campus, Emerita; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Margaret K. Wood, and conveyed to Dr. Wood on this day of May 9, 2004. |
