2004 EMERITI RESOLUTION WHEREAS Mr. Dennis James Stephens has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1978 to 2004; and WHEREAS Mr. Stephens has long been a critical component of students' academic success because of his varied and numerous roles at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Rasmuson Library; and through his formal classes and lectures has introduced students to the intricacies of library research so that they could pursue their own paths of knowledge; and has informally assisted countless students and faculty in locating library resources; and has offered his careful counsel as a member of three master's degree candidate committees; and WHEREAS Mr. Stephens has taken an active interest in the development of library science as relates to technology and collection development; and has been an enthusiastic proponent of the adoption of such technology by the library, allowing it to engage in productive and mutually beneficial cooperation with other libraries around the state, country and world; and WHEREAS Mr. Stephens has directly and significantly encouraged the structured growth of the Rasmuson Library, along with other libraries in the university system, so that it complements the university's land-grant mission of public outreach and its role as a leading arctic institution; and in so doing has enhanced the ability of the state's citizens to access information of importance to them; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Dennis James Stephens for his extensive contributions to both the state of Alaska and the university; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Stephens and as evidence of the university's desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Dennis James Stephens as Associate Professor of Library Science, Emeritus; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately
engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of
Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect
in which he holds Mr. Dennis James Stephens, and conveyed
to Mr. Stephens on this day of May 9, 2004. |
