RESOLUTION
conferring upon
DR. COLIN LESLIE READ
the title of
Professor of Economics, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Colin Leslie Read has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1989 to 2004; and

WHEREAS Dr. Read has worked devotedly as teacher and advisor to his students, conducting classes at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate programs and receiving enthusiastic student reviews for his efforts in the classroom; and has been recognized for his commitment as an educator by being nominated for the prestigious Emil Usibelli Distinguished Teaching Award; and

WHEREAS Dr. Read has amassed a remarkable collection of research, ranging from the assessment of academic policy at the University of Alaska to housing issues in Indonesia; and has presented his work in 14 referred publications and at nine professional meetings in the United States and Canada; and has studied a number of issues of great importance to Alaskans, including economic development in rural Alaska and the impact of the Alaska Highway on commerce; and

WHEREAS Dr. Read has diligently served the School of Management as its first associate dean, mentoring new faculty members and assisting in administration and accreditation issues; and has extended his service to the university as a whole as president of the Faculty Senate, chair of the Global Change Steering Committee and volunteer at the Academic Advising Center; and has further contributed to the strength of the statewide institution through his creation of the cross-campus Alliance of Faculty Senates, of which he served as president;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Colin Leslie Read for his extensive contributions to both the state of Alaska and the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Read and as evidence of the university's desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Colin Leslie Read as Professor of Economics, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Colin Leslie Read, and conveyed to Dr. Read on this day of May 9, 2004.
