2004 EMERITI RESOLUTION WHEREAS Mr. Jim R. Douglas has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1984 to 2004; and WHEREAS Mr. Douglas has devoted his career to the education of Alaskans through formal and informal means, from training sessions and classes to newspaper articles and radio talk shows, continuously striving to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities at play and at work; and has created further opportunities for education through his remarkable expansion of the 4-H program in Southeast Alaska, from only six leaders and 52 members in 1984 to more than 100 leaders and 630 members today; and WHEREAS Mr. Douglas has performed research of great importance and applicability to the local area for its implications for understanding a variety of critical issues, including plant infestations and diseases; and has conducted trials to improve crop production; and WHEREAS Mr. Douglas has clearly helped fulfill the university's role as a land-grant institution to provide meaningful service and information to Alaskans through his work to more closely integrate 4-H and the university; and has positively impacted learners of all ages across an astounding range of activities, from karate to gardening to leadership development; and has been duly recognized for his extraordinary contributions through service awards from the National Association of County Agriculture Agents, the National Association of 4-H Agents and the Emil Usibelli Distinguished Service Award; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. Jim R. Douglas for his extensive contributions to both the state of Alaska and the university; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Douglas and as evidence of the university's desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. Jim R. Douglas as Professor of Extension, Emeritus; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately
engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of
Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect
in which he holds Mr. Jim R. Douglas, and conveyed to Mr.
Douglas on this day of May 9, 2004. |
