RESOLUTION
conferring upon
DR. R. TERRY BOWYER
the title of
Professor of Wildlife Ecology, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. R. Terry Bowyer has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1986 to 2004; and

WHEREAS Dr. Bowyer has demonstrated great concern for his students through his careful monitoring of their academic progress; and has overseen the work of 26 graduate students, a level of commitment unusual in its high number of students; and has been recognized for his dedication to his role of teacher and counselor with the 2002 Outstanding Graduate Student Mentor and Advisor Award from the College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics; and

WHEREAS Dr. Bowyer has clearly enhanced the reputation of the university through his wildlife research, and is regarded nationally and internationally as being a scientist of the highest caliber; and has been recognized numerous times for his wide-ranging research by a variety of organizations, including winning the 2003 Outstanding Publication Award in Wildlife Ecology and Management from the Wildlife Society and being elected as a fellow of the Arctic Institute of North America; and

WHEREAS Dr. Bowyer has contributed significantly to the body of knowledge of many northern animal species, particularly large mammals; and has studied the effects of environment on those animals in order to better facilitate their conservation, thereby helping to ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate and benefit from a healthy ecology and biodiversity;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. R. Terry Bowyer for his extensive contributions to both the state of Alaska and the university; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Bowyer and as evidence of the university's desire that his identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. R. Terry Bowyer as Professor of Wildlife Ecology, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. R. Terry Bowyer, and conveyed to Dr. Bowyer on this day of May 9, 2004.
