2004 EMERITI RESOLUTION WHEREAS Dr. D.A. Bartlett has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1982 to 2004; and WHEREAS Dr. Bartlett has been beloved by students for her warmth and humor as much as for her depth and breadth of knowledge; and has opened new worlds of scholarship to her students through her erudite and inspired integration of art, history, linguistics and literature; and whose reputation for sharing with others her sheer joy of learning has attracted countless numbers of students to her crowded classroom; and whose intellectual exuberance has invigorated her students to seek their own discoveries; and WHEREAS Dr. Bartlett has greatly enriched her students' appreciation
for the humanities through her extraordinarily vast investigations
into subjects ranging from classical Greek mythology to Alaska
Native oral traditions; and has similarly been a valued resource
to her peers for her expertise in a range of subjects; and
has seamlessly melded her great love of antiquity with an
equally enthusiastic adoption of distance education technology,
allowing her to expand beyond the classroom walls to reach
rural students across the state; and WHEREAS Dr. Bartlett has extended her regard for her students' intellectual development to sincere concern for their personal well-being, serving as mentor and advisor for scores of scholars; and has been a valued member of the English department for her carefully considered opinions and for her willingness to assume additional work to the benefit of both students and colleagues; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. D.A. Bartlett for her extensive contributions to both the state of Alaska and the university; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Bartlett and as evidence of the university's desire that her identification with the university be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. D.A. Bartlett as Assistant Professor of English, Emerita; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately
engrossed and signed by the chancellor of the University of
Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect
in which he holds Dr. D.A. Bartlett, and conveyed to Dr. Bartlett
on this day of May 9, 2004. |
