2003 Emeriti RESOLUTION WHEREAS Dr. John S. Leipzig served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1982 to 2002; and WHEREAS Dr. Leipzig devoted much of his career to guiding students through their academic careers, establishing rigorous standards that inspired personal excellence among the many graduates and undergraduates that came under his tutelage; and provided careful and thoughtful recommendations in his role as student advisor, graduate assistant mentor, and master's thesis and doctoral dissertation committee chair or member; and WHEREAS Dr. Leipzig's research in communication, particularly group- and team-building and organizational communication, produced an extensive body of work in the field that resulted in more than three dozen publications in books and refereed journals, proceedings and conventions; and WHEREAS Dr. Leipzig was committed to enhancing the role of the faculty within the University, and played a significant role in the creation and implementation of the Faculty Senate; and promoted the great value and potential of the College of Liberal Arts both within the institution and throughout the country through his role as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. John S. Leipzig for his extensive contributions to both the State of Alaska and the University; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Leipzig and as evidence of the University's desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. John S. Leipzig as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Emeritus and Professor of Communication, Emeritus; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. John S. Leipzig, and conveyed to Dr. Leipzig on this day of May 11, 2003. |
