An Interdisciplinary Center for Research and Education
The Engineering, Science and Technology Experiment Station (ESTES), housed in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM), is a research administrative office to support UAF faculty, particularly those who do not have joint appointment with research institutes at UAF. Founded in 2001, ESTES supports research projects in various scientific fields including anthropology, physics, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, geology and environmental science. Science education and interdisciplinary proposals are also supported. ESTES support includes proposal preparation, both budgetary and some editorial, and proposal management for externally funded grants. Using research and affiliate faculty appointments, ESTES may also provide a faculty research workload release. A director, who reports to the dean of CNSM, manages ESTES.
