All application materials should arrive at the UAF Admissions office by January 15th to be considered for a teaching assistantship.
Required application materials include the UAF graduate application (at the UAF Admissions site), GRE, Statement of Goals, Vitae or Resume, 3 letters of reference, original transcripts, teaching assistantship application, and writing sample.
Writing Sample Guidelines:
The M.F.A. Program would like to read your best work regardless of length, but we do have some general guidelines. Submit a maximum of 25 to 40 pages of prose or 15 to 20 pages of poetry.
We are looking for good citizens as well as good writers. In your letter of application please take time to note how your experience, skills, and intellectual outlook might make you an important part of our writing community.
Teaching Assistantships. The department offers graduate teaching assistantships, which are awarded on the basis of merit. Duties include the teaching of one freshman composition section per semester, and tutoring in the Writing Center. The stipend of spproximately $11,955 for the first academic year also carries a waiver of tuition. M.F.A.'s may receive up to three years of financial support through this program.
