School of Education Technology Overview

The UAF School of Education is dedicated to making sure that our students have access to current technology and are capable of using technology for teaching and learning throughout their tenure at UAF and in their future careers. To these ends, we have established several initiatives relating to technology implementation.
Student Technology Outcomes
The School of Education has developed a set of student technology outcomes based on the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Students and the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers. These outcomes address the specific technology skills that students are expected to have upon completing their programs.
Laptop Requirement
Most education majors are required to have a laptop for their program at UAF. The Laptop Requirement page will explain more about this requirement and provide some helpful information about which computer best suits your needs. There is also a link to the SOE TEchnology FAQ.
Laptop Standards
Laptops used for SOE programs must meet certain hardware and software requirements.
SOE Custom Store
Through a special aarrangement with Apple, Inc., the School of Education is able to offer SOE students in good standing MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops at significant discounts over normal eduational discounts. These laptops are bundled with all required software and include an extended warranty. See Purchasing from the SOE Custom Store for more information.
SOE Technology Lab
The School of Education maintains a staffed technology lab at Old University Park. The lab has excellent wireless conectivity and is available for student use throughout the day. See SOE Lab at Old U Park for available equipment and schedules of open lab times and classes.
Equipment Checkout
The School of Education maintains a variety of laptops and related peripherals (microscopes, probeware, MID keyboards, graphics tablets, scanners, digital video and still cameras, etc.) that SOE interns can check out for use in their district classrooms during their internship year. This allows interns to put into practice the technology skills they have been learning during their coursework. More information may be found at the Equipment Reservations page.
SMART Boards
The main teaching spaces for SOE classes are equipped with SMART Boards and projectors.
