SOE Equipment Guidelines

  1. Cameras/Camcorders
    1. Reservations
      View the SOE calendar to determine if the equipment you’ll be requesting will be available. The URL is http://www.uaf.edu/educ/technology/index.html, or click on the Tech Calendar Centerlink on the left navigation bar of the SOE Technology web site.
    2. Obtain/Return
      In general, interns will be responsible for obtaining and returning equipment to OUP 162. In the event that it is impossible, special arrangements can sometimes be made.
    3. Still Cameras
      You will be responsible for replacing camera memory cards in the event they are lost or damaged.
      1. Don't take cards out of still cameras.
        Please use the USB cable to transfer the images to the student desktop. Compact Flash cards connect to the camera through a series of small pins that can be bent.
      1. Delete images from cards before returning camera
        Please delete images from the cards before returning. In some cases, the easiest, most secure method would be to format them using the camera menu (format the card).
    4. Video Cameras
      In general, miniDV tapes will be provided for camcorders. The exception will be when you want to save the material on the tapes for your own use later, in which case we ask that you use only Sony 60 Minute miniDV tapes
      1. Video from your miniDV tapes will need to be imported into your video editor via the camcorder.
    5. All Cameras
      1. Camera lenses
        Please use the supplied lens cleaning paper rather than cloth to avoid scratching the lens.
      2. Batteries, Cables, etc.
        You will be responsible for the replacement of lost rechargeable batteries, USB cables, Firewire cables, power supplies, etc.
      3. Charge batteries before return
        Please charge the batteries before returning the camera so they’ll be ready for the next user.
    6. Classroom Management
      Please develop a plan for the safe use of the cameras in your classroom. Develop a protocol for students using the cameras (store in a secure area, avoid dropping them, etc.)
    7. Please report any problems you encountered. Label problem cameras with a post-it note with specific problems indicated
    8. Liability Form
      You will be asked to sign a brief form that states you understand the opportunities and responsibilities before cameras will be available to you
  2. Computers
    1. Reservations
      View the SOE calendar to determine if the equipment you’ll be requesting will be available. The URL is http://www.uaf.edu/educ/technology/index.html, or click on the Tech Calendar Center link on the left navigation bar of the SOE Technology web site.
    2. Obtain/Return
      In general, interns will be responsible for obtaining and returning equipment to OUP 162. In the event that it is impossible, special arrangements can sometimes be made.
    3. Cleanup
      Please clean the keyboards before using and before returning using the supplied rubbing alcohol solution and cloths. Spray the alcohol solution on a rag, not directly on the keyboard or screen.
    4. Software
      Please do not add or remove computer software. Student work should be kept on the desktop for easy copying and/or deleting.
    5. Follow District Guidelines
      You are responsible for assuring students follow district guidelines while the computers are in use.
    6. Student Work
      Please move student work to the trash and empty the trash before returning the computers.
    7. Power Supplies/Powerstrips
      You are responsible for the functioning and return of all AC power supplies, powerstrips and extension cords.
    8. Classroom Management
      Please develop a plan for the safe use of the computers in your classroom. Develop a protocol for students using the computers (store in a secure area, avoid dropping them, avoid tripping on power cables, etc.)
    9. Networking
      The multimedia sets of computers are supplied with airport cards. You are responsible for getting them authorized for wireless access in your school. (Authorization is not required when using an Ethernet cable.)
    10. Printing
      Because of the wide variety of printing configurations, you will be responsible for arranging for any printing that may be required.
    11. Please report any problems you encountered. Label each laptop with a post-it note with the problems listed.
    12. Liability form
      You will be asked to sign a brief form that states you understand the opportunities and responsibilities before classroom sets of computers will be available to you.
