UAF Graduate Secondary Post-Baccalaureate Licensure Program with M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction Option
Admissions Process and Requirements
Admission to the graduate level secondary post-baccalaureate licensure program with M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction option for secondary education candidates includes meeting requirements of the UAF Graduate School and the School of Education (SOE). Graduate candidates take five of the licensure courses at the graduate-level (600).
Submit the following information directly to UAF Office of Admissions (also submit a copy of these items to SOE):
- UAF graduate application and $50 application fee. (Designate on your application that you are applying for Graduate Secondary Licensure and the M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction - Secondary Education.);
- Official transcript of bachelor’s degree from accredited institution, minimum grade point average of 3.0 (Applicants who have attended more than one university should include transcripts from all universities showing courses that made up their undergraduate degree.);
- Graduate Record Examination scores if cumulative undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0;
- Three current letters of reference | Word file | PDF file | that address qualifications and potential as a teacher,
- A vitae/resume;
- A personal statement of 1200-1500 words.
Submit the following information directly to the School of Education:
- Application Packet Checklist;
- Alaska passing scores from the Praxis I exam in reading, writing and mathematics;
- Academic Analysis form | Word file | PDF file |;
- Extemporaneous writing sample;
- Demonstrated evidence of technology competence;
- Demonstrated evidence of content competency in one of the UAF
approved secondary endorsement areas. Content competency may be shown
either by a degree with a major in one of these areas or
- By passing a Praxis II content test with a passing score as set by the State of Alaska, or
- By evaluation of transcript for equivalency of an academic major (may be requested).
- Additional content courses may be recommended or required for placement
in a secondary internship. Candidates should seek early advising regarding
content requirements.
The Department of Education and Early Development will, upon request, add additional endorsement areas based on an 18-credit minor posted on an intern’s transcript.
Candidates applying for admission to the secondary post-baccalaureate licensure program in spring 2006 or later will be required to meet new undergraduate degree requirements as listed in admission checklists or pass Praxis II. - Placement Materials.
