The UAF K-12 Art Licensure Program

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for K-12 Art Licensure is subset of the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for Secondary Education Program. The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for K-12 Art Licensure was developed in conjunction with local and regional school districts in order to better serve their instructional needs. While the numbers of potential completers are low, job opportunities for the completers are increased because they are able to work in more than one market (K-12, elementary and secondary levels).

The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate for K-12 Art Licensure program involves collaborative partnerships between public schools and the university. The program draws upon the expertise of public school teachers who serve as mentors throughout the academic year. The program seeks to build a collaborative learning community between university and K-12 faculties.

Students in the program are assessed relative to national and state standards, including National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (i.e., NCATE) standards, the national fine arts standards, the Alaska Teacher Standards, the Alaska Student Content Standards, and the Alaska Standards for Culturally Responsive Schools.
