Virtual races a can be done any where, by anyone, at any time.  Here at Nanook Recreation we have created a race day website for each of our races to make them interactive.  You can check out all the finish line pictures races submit, submit a motivational comment for other racers to read or just see how you do against all the other competitors on our results page.  Don't feel like you're up to the challenge? We have a training page to help you get ready to race. Finishers receive a nanook recreation Tshirt.

Currently available:

At Home Boot Camp: Both Circuit and HIIT style workouts that you can do at home are offered. Try one of the Nanook Recreation workouts that includes video demonstrations of each exercise and will continue to be updated with new exercises. Want to design your own workout? You can do that too and post it to our site for others to give a try.  You can even log workouts and post an after workout photo for bragging rights.

Guided at home workout videos:   Check out our guided workout videos on YouTube, new videos released each week.  These videos are both Circuit and HIIT style workouts using body weight exercises and small equipment that may people already own such as books and gallon water jugs.

Healthy Weight Loss:  This program was created to introduce people interested in losing weight to scientifically backed information. We will cover the following topics,  factors influence weight gain and loss, the basics nutrition, how our mind and behaviors can influences nutrition, physical activity and exercise.  There will be an opportunity to participate in a group fitness class at the SRC designed specifically for participants of this program.

This program allows current Nanook Recreation members to rent fitness equipment to workout at home.  The equipment in this program is Nanook Recreation owned equipment.  Prices vary depending on the value of the equipment, the size, and the periodic maintenance needed to keep the equipment in good working order. Please review our prices in the Rental Center website, you will find the link below.  All equipment rental is done on a first come first serve basis.  New equipment will be added and/or removed from the inventory depending on operational capacity of the SRC.

Outdoor Fitness

Nanook Recreation is offering a  fitness class series focused  speed  training for the adult recreational athlete.  These training sessions will focus on developing flexibility, and linear speed for the distance athlete. We will use a mix of plyometrics, resistive running, assistive running and sprint mechanic enhancing drills. Workouts will be supervised by a certified strength and conditioning specialist with 17 years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience.

Must be a minimum of 18 yrs old.
 
Nanook Recreation is offering a  fitness class series focused on youth sport specific training. These training sessions will focus on developing flexibility, strength, speed, agility and sport specific conditioning for the young athlete. Increasing physical preparation for your sport can improve performance and decrease the likelihood of injury. Must be 15yrs to 18yrs.Workouts will be supervised by a certified strength and conditioning specialist with 17 years of collegiate strength and conditioning experience.

Must be a minimum of 15yrs of age.

A quick, 35 minute lunch time workout. This class will utilize primarily body weight and sub body weight exercises performed at a fast pace, muscle groups will be alternated giving you short active rests between exercises. For example upper body exercise will be alternated with lower body exercises with minimal rest; this will tax your aerobic energy system making it primarily a cardio workout. Great for beginners this class is a go at your own pace class, and exercises will be modified for individual ability levels.

Class descriptions

A lunch time workout consisting of body weight exercises and light strength training exercises. These exercises are circuited at a fast pace for a quick 40 minute cardio workout. This class is designed as a go at your own pace format, great for beginners but you can make it as intense as you are willing to work.  Mondays are circuit day, we rotate between different exercises and alternating muscle groups for an intense strength workout. Wednesdays are a HIIT based workout, intense intervals of timed exercises are alternated with limted rest for an intense cardio workout.

Location: SRC on court 3

A series of body weight  exercises that focuses on flexibility,  core strength and  localized muscular endurance. Mat pilates borrows from multiple discipliens such as dance and yoga.  Beginners are welcome as well as returning participants.

Location: SRC group fitness studio

Enjoy a cardio workout in our cycling studio while we motivate you with awesome music, challenging rides, and leaders to motivate and push you all the way to the top. Low impact but fierce, cycling is great for building core strength and working on endurance.  Blast the calories and enjoy the ride.

Location: Patty Ice Center Indoor Cycling Studio

A 6 week class designed for beginners.  Class size is set to a maximum of 4 students, selectorize machines, free weights and functional movement exercises are taught with an emphasis on proper technique. Students follow a written 6 week strength training program and an informational packet covering, basic program design, written reference material for the exercises used in the program and recover modalities. Intended learning outcomes include, proper technique for a set menu of basic strength training exercises, the principles behind building strength and  an understanding of how to program a basic strength training session.

This Class requires an active membership to register.

Location: SRC weight room

A 6 week class designed for intermediate lifters, participants should have some experiencing  squating and using a barbell and/or dumbells prior to this class.  A systematic and progressive approach to learning the 2 olympic lifts, the Clean Jerk and the Snatch. Class size is set to a maximum of 4students to ensure participant safety and instruction quality.  Students will receive form and technique critique and development the skills necessary to perform the olympic lifts. Exercise selection is modified for individual ability levels.

This Class requires an active membership to register.

Location: SRC weight room

A 6 week class designed for intermediate lifters, participants should have some experiencing bench pressing, squatting and using a barbell and/or dumbells prior to this class . Class size is set to a maximum of 10 students, this class has an emphasis on free weight exercises. The class touches on a variety of strength training genres including, sports performance techniques, power lifting, Olympic lifting, accommodating resistance and injury prevention techniques. Students follow a written 6 week strength training program and an informational packet covering, program design, weightlifting equipment, mobility training and recover modalities. Intended learning outcomes include, proper technique for a set menu of strength training exercises, the principles behind building strength and an understanding of how to program for specific out comes. Exercise selection is modified for individual interests and ability levels.

This Class requires an active membership to register.
