Need something to do this summer? Want to put an adventurous twist on your summer camp experience? Look no further than Outdoor Adventures. We will be offering two new and exciting sets of camps. One called The Expedition series for ages 13-17 and the other called Little Nanook Adventure camp for 10-13. These camps are not only a positive way for your student to spend their summer but will also challenge them both physically and mentally. Each student gaining lifelong skills in a specific adventure sport while achieving a greater comfort and understanding of their natural surroundings. All of this will take place under the expert supervision and instruction of the Outdoor Adventures staff members.

Youth Adventure Expedition Camps

Ages 14-17       

Cost: $475 

Dates: Please refer to specific camps

Trail Days: Come join Outdoor Adventures as we explore the wonderful trails of the Fairbanks area. This camp will consist of 2 days learning the basics of wilderness travel on campus and a 3 day 2 night trip into the backcountry surrounding Fairbanks. Students will walk away from this experience with a knowledge of backcountry travel, trip planning and preparation, basic map and compass skills, a new appreciation of the natural world and knowledge of the trails in and around Fairbanks.  No experience necessary.

·          Dates: June 11-15, and July 16-20

Climbing and Adventure: Want to explore the vertical terrain of the Alaskan Interior? Join the knowledgeable staff of Outdoor Adventures as we spend the week learning the “ropes” of rock climbing. The first two days will be spent on campus honing in our skills on our state of the art climbing facilities. Here we will learn the knots, equipment and movement of climbing. The next three days will be spent in the great outdoors; 2 at grapefruit rocks and one day spent on the wild Nenana giving our tired forearms a rest. Note the order of the days outdoors will be weather dependent.

Wet and Wild: Alaska is known for its many wild and scenic rivers. Join Outdoor Adventures as we explore a few of those waterways in and around Fairbanks. This 5 day water focused adventure camp will give the camper experience in both flat water and whitewater paddling techniques, the essentials of swift water safety as well as learning the art of reading a river. Each day will be spent on the water, with the first four days on the Chena and the last day spent navigating the class 2 and 3 rapids of the Nenana River. Two of the days on the Chena will be part of a 2 day float giving the campers the basic of expedition water trips. No experience no problem. This trip is friendly for all ages.

Mud Sweat and Gears: Let’s put the pedal to the metal and get out and explore the natural beauty of the interior form the comfort of two wheels. This 5 day bike focused adventure camp will give the camper a great experience in bike travel in Alaska. We will spend the first three days learning the basics of bike maintenance and expedition planning on campus while getting out and exploring the local trails each day. Day 4 and 5 will be spent on an overnight trip getting a taste of bike touring in Alaska.  Bikes will be provided at no extra cost. If you are planning on bringing your own please make sure it is a geared mountain bike in good working order.

Little Nanooks Adventure Camps

This week long camp will give each camper experience in climbing, hiking, and canoeing. All of this taking place on the beautiful UAF Campus. These camps are not only a positive way for your student to spend their summer but will also challenge them both physically and mentally. Each student will also gain lifelong skills that they can use to build their interest and experience in outdoor recreation.

           Each day will be jam packed with many different activities. We  will be hiking on the UAF Campus trail system, learning the basics of compass use. We will spend some time at the farms on the Large Animal Research Station learning about the animals. Another day we will canoe Smith Lake located on campus. We will also be testing our strength at either our indoor or outdoor climbing facility. Students will also get the opportunity to play the UAF disc golf course.

           Students should bring their own lunches for all sessions that take place on campus. No cold storage or microwaves are available. All field days will have lunch provided for the students. Please make sure everything is marked. Please send a snack as food and drinks will not be provided. We keep the students busy and they will appreciate a snack for extra energy.
