Financial Aid

As part of your academic planning, you need to determine what your financial aid needs are, and to apply for any financial aid and scholarships in a timely way.

Financial aid may come in the form of scholarships, grants, loans, or fellowships. Typically, you'll need to apply for these some months in advance of enrolling in classes. Information about financial aid can be obtained from local sources such as Native regional and village corporations, community development quota (CDQ) fisheries organizations, or tribal and municipal governments, as well as from conventional sources such as the UAF Financial Aid Office 907-474-7065.

IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SECURE FUNDS FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE RD DEGREE PROGRAM, INCLUDING THE RD492 SEMINAR AND RD600 SYMPOSIUM.

Program costs typically include tuition, fees, and books. Students are also expected to secure funds for travel, hotel, and per diem in conjunction with the RD492 Seminar (BA students) RD600 Circumpolar Indigenous Leaders Symposium (MA students). We realize that some funders are not normally willing to provide financial aid for travel, per diem, and hotels connected with the RD492 seminar and RD600 symposium. However, our experience is that many are willing to do so once they realize that these seminars are a REQUIRED part of an academic program.
