Announcing an added attraction for those who truly know that learning is cool! Local ice carving artist, Larry Moen, has again agreed to offer an ice carving workshop solely for attendees of our institution this March. 12-15 slots are available on a first come, first serve basis.
The class will run 3-5 hours depending on student progress and project completion. The workshop will beginning promptly at 9:00 AM and end no later than 2:00 PM. Tools will be provided, but each participant is responsible for their own lunch.
Participants usually benefit by thinking of a sculptural idea beforehand, but some create their idea on the spot. Students will each have a table-top sculpture size block of ice to work with (about 18”). If two or more students want to work together, larger blocks of ice can be accommodated.
Ice is a reasonably soft medium and does not require anywhere near the strength needed for stone carving or even wood carving. Most students are surprised at how easy it is to work with. Persons concerned about the cold should know that we usually carve in a site close to the main (heated) building, so that warming up is easy if desired. Hand warmers are recommended for temperatures below zero.
The class consists of:
Registration fees are $75.00 and includes entrance to Ice Park which will be at its peak time due to the completion of the popular multi-block competition the night before!
