Medical Terminology                           HLTH F100 UL1     3 Credits     CRN: 78897

Study of medical terminology including analysis and origin of word roots, prefixes and suffixes. Understanding the word components, students will be able to build, spell and define medical words. Content will be presented by body systems focusing on terms for anatomy, diagnostic, laboratory and medical specialties. Includes use of medical dictionary, word pronunciation and abbreviations.

Mathematics in Health Care              HLTH F116 UR1      3 Credits        CRN: 78051

Practical application of mathematics in health care, including arithmetic review, percent, interest, ratio, proportion, dimensional analysis, metric system, medication calculation, graphs, charts and measurement instruments.
PREREQUISITES: DEVM 050 or placement in DEVM 060 or higher

Medical Law and Ethics                  HLTH F118 UR1         2 Credits         CRN:78052

In-depth coverage of legal and ethical issues encountered in health care settings. Students will gain a practical knowledge of legal and ethical principles and application of these principles in health care settings. Monday 5:10pm - 6:40pm

Administrative Procedures I             HLTH F132 UR1     2 Credits           CRN: 77871

Administrative responsibilities
performed by medical/dental assistants and other health care providers in outpatient facilities. Includes duties of the office assistant, receptionist or secretary. Focus on reception, telephone procedures, public relations and professionalism.
Thursday 5:10pm - 6:10pm
PREREQUISITES:

High school graduation, GED or permission of instructor.


Medical Coding                                     HLTH F235 UR1     4 Credits             CRN: 78053

In-depth study of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and the International Classification of diseases (ICD) systems used in the medical setting. Examines the medical and legal uses of the CPT and ICT code systems in inpatient and outpatient medical settings, urgent care settings, billing departments and ancillary medical
professions. Prepares students to take national certification exams.

Outpatient Health Care Reimbursement      HLTH F236 UR1        3 Credits      CRN: 78054

In-depth study of outpatient reimbursement issues including documentation, insurance carriers, fees schedules and payment  profiles. Collection strategies and legal issues will be presented, as well as the importance of educating the patient to
the financial polices of the practice.
Tuesday 5:10p, - 6:40pm
PREREQUISITE:
HLTH 132 and concurrent 234; or permission of instructor.

 These courses are offered online (NOT by telephone). 

To participate, all you need is a computer with an Internet connection!

 Certificate in Health Care Reimbursement

PA series of ten billing and coding classes, health information classes, and medical office training

P Tuition is $134 per credit hour and must be paid at time of registration. Class size is limited.

Registration runs July 28th - August 24th.   

 Classes run September 2nd - December 17th
