                 UAF Awards Outstanding Students

Three of CRCD Health Program’s students were among those honored at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ annual student awards breakfast Saturday, April 19, 2008 in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. Each spring, UAF honors students who have distinguished themselves throughout their academic careers.

Among those to be honored are CRCD Health Program’s Melanie Magnuson, Shannon Nanalook- Johnson and Norene Otnes

Melanie Magnuson, of Unalaska, is graduating from the Rural Allied Health Program in May. Melanie is a mother of 3, an employee of the OOnalaska Wellness Center, and an active community member.

 Shannon Nanalook-Johnson, of Iliamna is a Human Services Program student. Shannon is a full-time student, a mother of 3 young children and an active volunteer in various youth programs in her village. Shannon plans to continue her education in Behavioral Health with the goal of earning her Bachelor’s in Social Work.

 Norene Otnes, of Ketchikan, is a mother of 4, and grandmother of 1, a Community Family Service Work II for SEARHC and a Rural Human Services Graduate. Norene’s life experiences and volunteer work have led her to pursue her dream of a college education. Norene plans to attend the Human Services Program in the fall. Norene has just accepted a position on the RHS Advisory Council.

Welcome to the College of Rural and Community Development Health Programs. Our mission is to provide rural Alaskans with the education and training needed to ensure their success in health care professions across the state of Alaska. We incorporate blended (a variety of teaching methods) technologies in our teaching to link all our students together for learning opportunities across the state. We work closely with a number of agencies that provide funding which we can use for student financial support.
