Judith Kleinfeld, CLA, received the 2008 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. Kleinfeld has been at UAF since 1969 and is director of the national Boys Project and co-director of the UAF Northern Studies program.
Daniel Winfree, a UAF College of Fellows member for over 15 years and former adjunct faculty member of TVC, is the 19th justice to be appointed to the Alaska Supreme Court.
Murat Balaban is the new director of the SFOS Fishery Industrial Technology Center in Kodiak. Balaban will publicize the center’s work to increase the value of Alaska’s seafood products.
Reid Brewer, MAP, recently assisted a film crew from the Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs and local residents in Unalaska to film the cleaning of a humpback whale carcass that was stranded last September. Once cleaned, the rearticulated bones will be displayed in a local hotel.
The GI Map Office has a new book for sale: The Climate of Alaska by Martha Shulski, GI, and Gerd Wendler, professor emeritus. The office is located in Akasofu 204.

Flint Hills Resources Alaska, Inc. gave $62,500 to fund a variety of programs, including the visiting faculty program through the SOM, the TVC student fees assistance and scholarships for student-athletes through the Nanook Fund.
Professor emeritus Syun-ichi Akasofu and his wife Emiko gave a second gift of $25,000 to support the GI Associates’ Endowment Fund.
BP gave several gifts totaling $10,000 in support of the Minority Engineering Program and the Petroleum Engineering Program at CEM in addition to support for the American Indian Science and Engineering Society and the Society of Professional Engineers chapters at UAF.
Paul H. and Lucy A. McCarthy made an $8,000 gift to the P. Stephen McCarthy Memorial Fund to sponsor a photojournalism internship with Athletics.
