Campus Insights from Buck Sharpton

UAF Supports Our Community

The United Way of the Tanana Valley provides thousand of dollars to many Fairbanks area nonprofit agencies each year. The annual United Way campaign offers the community an opportunity to support those endeavors. The money raised ensures that many worthwhile agencies can continue their work to make our community stronger. Your donations go a long way in support of these important local agencies.

UAF is proud to be part of the campaign again this year. For the past 10 years, we have been a leader in the number of individuals who choose to give. The generosity of our UAF employees has made a difference and this year we have the opportunity to do even more. I am convinced UAF can be the largest contributor this year.

The UAF United Way campaign will begin Oct. 15. Special events will generate excitement and energy behind efforts to meet our goal of $70,000 this year. The Nanook Chili Cook-Off will be Friday, Nov. 16, from noon - 1 p.m. in the Wood Center. Enter your favorite chili recipe or stop by to savor some flavorful chilis created by some of UAF's best cooks. Everyone who pledges at least $5 per pay period will be entered in a drawing for prizes such as Nanook athletic season tickets, UA Museum of the North memberships and other gift certificates.

I encourage each UAF unit to set a goal and work together to meet and exceed your goal. Many of us have taken advantage of services supported by the United Way. By contributing, we will ensure that these organizations are able to help out when they are most needed.

Thank you for supporting the United Way.
