New Methods
In December, the Office of Admissions transitioned to a paperless applications process. Taking the lead for Enrollment Services, Admissions successfully implemented the OnBase Document Imaging System. The Registrar's Office and the Financial Aid Office will soon 'go live' with similar document imaging systems which are expected to speed up access and increase efficiency.
While adapting to new business processes and new technology, Admissions has needed to manage a nearly 10 percent increase in applications. This is good news, however these changes are accompanied with some challenges. As we continue to work with the Statewide Document Imaging Administration, we continue to fine tune not only the technology, but also the university's processing needs.
To lower processing time, the Office of Admissions has hired three new clerks and one new file reviewer. Due to the efforts and enthusiasm of the new staff and the continued dedication of our current processing staff --Leslie Thomas, Rosario Sheets, Michelle Thompson, Caty Oehring, Jodi Baxter, John Smelter and Anne Marie Nacke--our applications are being processed in four weeks. We expect to be processing admissions applications in half that time by next year.
In addition, the Office of Admissions continues to focus on UA Scholar recruiting. UAF is showing an increase of 16 percent over last year in UA Scholar applications. Getting these students and our other admits enrolled for fall 2007 is the next critical step. UAF's advising and registration staff is ready to meet that challenge.
