for your informationThe Gathering of Wisdom Keepers recently brought to UAF the Alaska Native honorary degree recipients from around the state. The UA system has conferred more than 30 Alaska Native leaders with honorary degrees since the practice began in 1932. Those in attendance included; Walter Soboleff, Sidney Huntington, Mary Jane Fate, Ethel Lund, Nathan Jackson, Poldine Carlo, Willie Hensley, Gil Truitt, Delores Churchill, Ellen Hayes, Katherine Peter and Esther Shea. President Hamilton and Chancellor Lind both spoke at the event to honor those attending. The Electrical Engineering Program is changing its name to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This is a department name change only and not a program change. The change was requested to more accurately reflect the strong computer engineering aspects within the program. UAF has been featured on the covers of two national
publications recently. Education West magazine and Liberal Education,
the journal of the Association of American Colleges and Universities both
display images of the UAF campus in recent issues. Richard Boone, IAB, and Brenda Norcross, IMS, have been selected to attend the Aldo Leopold Leadership Program in Tuscon, Ariz. The program is operated by Oregon State University on behalf of the Ecological Society of America. It began in 1998 and is designed to assist scientists who want to be more effective communicators of scientific information. Paige McLaughlin will assume her new role as director
of the Early Childhood Learning Lab at the Tanana
Valley Campus on June 1. The program allows early childhood students
to work directly with children and provides high quality early childhood
education and care for children of UAF faculty, staff and students. The Geophysical Institute Machine Shop has signed a licensing agreement with UAF to split potential profits from the development of two pin-bone removal machines. The devices are designed to remove the tiny pin bones from salmon that conventional processing machines leave behind. Need help publicizing your campus event? University
