Members of the UAF community are invited to meet University of Alaska presidential finalists Lisa A. Rossbacher , Patrick K. Gamble , and John R. Pugh during campus and community forums Monday, March 1. Finalists will be available to meet with the UAF community from 1 – 5 p.m. March 1 in the auditorium at the UA Museum of the North. The candidates will appear one at a time and will each have 45 minutes to give a short presentation and answer questions. They will begin and end on the hour. Those who cannot attend the forums at the museum are also welcome to attend the community presentations from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Carlson Center. Candidates will give rotating presentations every 45 minutes.

UAOnline and Banner will be unavailable for one week beginning 5 p.m. Thursday, March 4, so OIT can upgrade to Banner 8. The systems are scheduled to be online again Thursday, March 11. During the outage you will not be able to access UAOnline, Banner, grades, bills, financial aid, pay stubs, course drop/add, benefit information and some other online systems. You will still be able to access Blackboard, Rasmuson Library and Goldmine, e-mail and the Internet.

Math in a Cultural Context, an elementary school math series that is part of the UA Geography Program and the School of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences, has published its ninth storybook, Kukugyarpak, told by Annie Blue.

The UA Geography Program recently opened its neogeography lab in the Denali Building. The lab makes Google Earth more accessible to students.

The Office of Information Technology is changing the file retention policy on the OIT FTP server effective March 1. Spring Break 2010 is March 8 – 12. There are no classes held that week. Most UAF offices will be closed March 12.

Philip Loring, indigenous studies Ph.D. candidate, presents his dissertation defense Tuesday, March 2, at 2 p.m. in room 109 Butrovich Building. Loring's dissertation is titled, "Ways to Help and Ways to Hinder: Food Security and Policy in a Changing Climate."

The UAF Wind Symphony and the UAF Jazz Band present a concert Wednesday, March 3, at 8 p.m. in Davis Concert Hall. Three Nanook hockey players received Central Collegiate Hockey Association honors for the week of Feb. 22. Senior Dion Knelsen was selected as Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Scott Greenham was selected as the Reebok Goalie of the Week and freshman Andy Taranto was selected as the CCM Rookie of the Week.

Three Nanook women swimmers , senior Felina Rosadiuk and juniors Mariya Pavlovskaya and Kinsey Laine, were named to the Pacific College Swim Coaches academic all-conference swim team. All three were also named to the PCSC all-conference team for finishing eighth place or better in one or more events at the PCSC Championships in February. 

Nanook women's basketball takes on Seattle Pacific Thursday, March 4, at 5:15 p.m., and Northwest Nazarene Saturday, March 6, at 5:15 p.m. Both games are in the Patty Center gym.
