Fran Ulmer, chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage since 2007, announced that she will retire in 2011.

The Tanana Valley Campus Process Technology Program now offers classes in the new Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, located off Van Horn Road. The additional space allows TVC to expand its process technology and safety programs. The center is a public and private partnership to prepare Alaskans for work in the oil, gas and construction industries.
OIT has a new Enterprise Directory Gadget available that can do an Enterprise Directory -- EDIR -- lookup right from Google Apps @ UA. The Enterprise Directory Gadget provides an easy way to look up UAUsername@alaska.edu addresses. Visit the gadgets page for installation instructions.
Alaska is the most seismically active state in the U.S. and is the site of the second-largest earthquake ever recorded. For more information on recent earthquakes in Alaska visit the Alaska Earthquake Information Center.
The Registrar's Office is going green and no longer prints mass class rosters or grade rosters. Instructors can view their class rosters under the Faculty Services menu at UAOnline.
Andy Soria, School of Natural Resource and Agricultural Sciences, has been appointed to a national energy committee of the National Academies’ Board on Agriculture and Natural Resources and Board on Energy and Environmental Systems commissioned by the Department of the Treasury. The committee will study current and projected biofuel production, use and effects.

Wild Moments: Adventures with Animals in the North, edited by Michael Engelhard and published by the UA Press, received a favorable review in Audubon Magazine's January – Feburary 2010 issue.

Employee notice, protection for whistleblowers: Any employee may in good faith report to testify before a public agency concerning: a violation of federal, state or local law; a danger to public health or safety; gross mismanagement; a substantial waste of funds or clear abuse of authority; or a matter under investigation by the state. Employee protections and obligations regarding reports of these matters of public concern are fully stated in Alaska statutes 39.90.100 through 39.90.150, which are available for review at 201 Eielson Building.

The 2010 Science for Alaska Lecture Series takes place Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Westmark Gold Room. "Tooth-Walkers: Uncovering the Archaeology of Alaska's Walruses" by Erica Hill, assistant professor of anthropology, UAS, takes place Jan. 26 and "Breaking the Barrier: Tobacco's Effect on Lung Architecture" by Cindy Knall, assistant professor of immunology, UAA, takes place Feb. 2. The series continues in Fairbanks on Tuesdays through Feb. 23; selected lectures will also be offered in Anchorage and Juneau.
The UAF Student Job Fair takes place Wednesday – Thursday, Jan. 27 – 28, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Wood Center. UAF departments will have the opportunity to advertise job openings. For more information visit Career Services or call 474-7596.
The Art Department presents the 2010 spring Master of Fine Arts student exhibit in the Fine Arts Building University Art Gallery. The opening reception takes place Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 5 – 7 p.m.; the exhibit continues until Friday, Feb. 5. The gallery's normal hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Theatre UAF is holding auditions for the spring production of Vinegar Tom Saturday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Salisbury Theatre.
The Financial Aid Office presents Finan˘ial $ense Day, Monday, Feb. 1, with workshops around campus at 10 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. Sessions are free, open to all and registration is not required. For more information and a listing of workshops visit the website.
The UAF Faculty Senate meets Monday, Feb. 1, from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom.
The 2010 Alaska Tsunami Ocean Sciences Bowl, sponsored by Alaska Sea Grant and the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, takes place Friday – Sunday, Feb. 5 – 7, in Seward. The winning Alaska high school team will compete at the National Ocean Science Bowl finals in Florida in April.
Admissions presents Discover UAF: Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships Saturday, Feb. 6, for high school juniors and seniors and their parents to learn about UAF, ask questions and tour campus.
