The UA Board of Regents has selected nine semi-finalists for president of the university and will interview them Feb. 27 – 28. The list of finalists will be released Feb. 28. The finalists will visit UAF, UAA and UAS to meet with faculty, staff, students and community members March 1 – 3. Video links to rural sites will be arranged as much as possible.

The 2010 Poker Flat Research Range rocket season has begun. The season kicked off Feb. 1 and runs through Feb. 28. Two rockets are scheduled for launch this season.
Requests for updates for the 2010 – 2011 UAF academic catalog general information sections will be distributed via e-mail Wednesday, Feb. 10. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 3. For more information contact LJ Evans at 474-6479 or ljevans@alaska.edu.
UAF Cooperative Extension invites Alaskans to fill out an online survey by March 15 as part of its strategic planning process. Responses will help guide programming in the areas of health, energy, youth and families, food security, and economic and community development.
Debbie Toopetlook and Carol Murphrey, College of Rural and Community Development, presented "Connecting Rural Alaska to UAF through video teleconferencing" at the Regional National Academic Advising Association conference Jan. 26 in Seattle, Wash.
The New Student Orientation office is seeking students who have completed at least one semester at UAF and have a minimum 2.0 GPA to submit applications to become 2010 – 2011 orientation leaders and laborers. Nicole Mölders, Geophysical Institute and College of Natural Science and Mathematics, and Gregory Newby, Arctic Region Supercomputing Center, published the editorial "Polar weather and its research and forecast challenges" about the Alaska Weather Symposium 2008 in the journal Atmospheric Research.
Marge Thompson, Digital Photographic Services, has two photographs accepted in the annual "Patterns of Influence" juried show at the Fairbanks Arts Association's Bear Gallery. The exhibit will be on display for the remainder of February.
Gerhard Kramm, Geophysical Institute, and Nicole Mölders, Geophysical Institute and College of Natural Science and Mathematics, authored the paper "Planck's blackbody radiation law: Presentation in different domains and determination of the related dimensional constants" published by the Journal of the Calcutta Mathematical Society.

Pets are allowed on campus only when in a personal vehicle or on a leash and accompanied by someone who can be responsible for the animal and its waste. Pets and animals are not permitted in campus buildings and may be impounded if found tethered to structures, vehicles, trees, railings, light poles, benches, parking meters or posts. Problem animals will be removed. For more information review the campus pet policy (doc).

The UAF Bookstore is hosting a "garage sale" Monday – Friday, Feb. 8 – 12 with up to 80 percent off old edition textbooks and vintage technology items. "Religion and Science: Conflict, Coexistence or Cooperation?," a lecture by Juan Roederer, professor emeritus of physics, takes place Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. in Wood Center conference rooms C and D.
The 2010 Science for Alaska Lecture Series continues Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Westmark Gold Room. "What's Smoking Now? Fairbanks Air Quality and PM2.5" by Cathy Cahill, associate professor of chemistry, Geophysical Institute, UAF, takes place Feb. 9 and "Listening for Magma: How to Forecast a Volcanic Eruption" by Michael West, research assistant professor of seismology, Alaska Volcano Observatory, Geophysical Institute, UAF, takes place Feb. 16. The series continues in Fairbanks on Tuesdays through Feb. 23; selected lectures will also be offered in Anchorage and Juneau.
The Student Organizations Fair is Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Wood Center. Representatives from campus organizations will provide information about their groups.
Music at One, free recitals by UAF music students, take place throughout the semester on Thursdays from 1 – 2 p.m. in Davis Concert Hall. The next recital will be Feb. 11. Admission is free. For more information call 474-7555.

The Geophysical Institute and International Arctic Research Center Staff Council are hosting a valentine flower sale Friday, Feb. 12, from noon – 2 p.m. in the Elvey Globe Room. Dancing with the Cars, a fundraiser to support the UAF Arctic Innovation Competition and Doyon Foundation scholarships, takes place Friday, Feb. 12, from 7 – 11 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum. Join Chancellor Rogers and Sherry Modrow and celebrate UAF and Fairbanks community partnerships with food, music, dancing, a live auction and a preview of the Fairbanks Concert Association's performance by Street Beat. The Alaska Skijoring and Pulk Association presents skijor races on the UAF Ski Trails Sunday, Feb. 14, as part of the Race Across the Valley series (PDF). Sign-ups will be from noon - 12:30 p.m. in the ski hut and the race begins at 1 p.m. There are four- and eight-mile courses; skijorers can be pulled by up to three dogs. The Alaska Produce Growers Conference (PDF), hosted by the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, takes place Tuesday – Wednesday, Feb. 16 – 17, in Palmer. The conference will feature experts from the university and state and federal agencies discussing the latest research and crop recommendations.
UA Press author Bill Sherwonit will read from Changing Paths and Living With Wildness Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m. at Gulliver's Books.

Junior Nanook women's basketball player Grace Milliken has been named to the Academic All-District women's basketball second team by ESPN the Magazine. Milliken is a biological sciences major and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA.
