TVC's paralegal studies program was reapproved by the American Bar Association. Fewer than 25 percent of paralegal programs in the U.S. meet the ABA's guidelines.
Safety training courses are now available to all UA employees online via SkillSoft. Courses available include Office Safety, Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Materials Handling, Back Injury Prevention, Signs and Tags, Accident and Injuries Prevention, and Slips, Trips and Falls. Poker Flat Research Range launched the final rocket of the season March 20. Range staff supported the launch of eight rockets this year.
Alaska Sea Grant published proceedings of a 2008 workshop on North Aleutian Basin offshore oil and gas development. The workshop gathered Aleutian stakeholders to exchange information and gain a better understanding of the possible effects of oil and gas exploration and development on the region.
WIN for Alaska presents the Personal Wellness Profile for those enrolled in the UA health plan. The profile is a brief, online questionnaire that helps identify possible health risks and provides an immediate report to help you lower risks in problem areas. The results are yours and a $100 incentive is offered to participate. The questionnaire will be distributed April 1 by e-mail.
The UAF Property Office is holding a public auction April 4 at 10 a.m. at the Central Receiving/Property Office at 1855 Marika Road. Surplus will be closed March 30 – April 3 to prepare for the auction. For more information call 474-6137.
UAF Staff Council's Election, Membership and Rules Committee is accepting nominations for president-elect. The president-elect serves a one-year term and becomes Staff Council president the following year. Nominations are due by 3 p.m. Friday, May 8. The spring 2009 supervisor training calendar is available at the UAF HR website. Current supervisors should complete the core courses by May 31, and complete the program within two years. New supervisors have two years from the date they assume a supervisory position to complete the training. For more information call 474-7557.

The Bartlett Lecture Series presents Chuck Klosterman's lecture "Life Through the Prism of Pop-Culture" Tuesday, March 31, at 7 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. Klosterman is author of Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs and Downtown Owl.

The 21st annual UAF Jazz Fest takes place Thursday – Saturday, April 2 – 4, in Davis Concert Hall. Concerts include the UAF Jazz Band and guest artists April 2 at 7 p.m. with admission of $15 adults and $10 students, seniors and military; Jazz Combo Performance by guest artists April 3 at 1 p.m. with admission of $5; All Schools Jazz Fest bands and choirs concert April 3 at 7 p.m. with free admission; and the Jazz Fest Showcase concert April 4 at 1 p.m. with free admission. The UAF mechanical engineering team took 2nd place in the Zero Emissions class of the 2009 Society of Automobile Engineers Clean Snowmobile Challenge for their battery-powered snowmachine. The five-member team also won the Hawke Safety Award, the Rookie of the Challenge Award and the CH2M Hill Polar Service Range Event Award.
UAF petroleum engineering students Rusheet Shah and Sathish Kulathu won first and second place respectively in the MS division and Daniel Clark won second place in the BS division of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Western Regional Meeting 2009 student paper contest.
Dr. Cary Keller donated $10,000 and pledged annual recurring gifts to the scholarship fund named in his honor by former Nanook hockey player Ryan Muspratt.
Fairbanks Daily News-Miner's gift of $10,000 in 2008 supported scholarships for four journalism students this academic year. Marilyn Romano, publisher of the paper, announced summer internship opportunities for scholarship recipients: Kortnie Westfall in sports reporting; Ashley Anklowitz in photography; Ashley Briggs in news; and Mathew Simpson in online reporting.
The Interior Alaska Building Association established a $25,000 endowment to provide scholarships for students pursuing careers in building-related fields.
