Nanook hockey Coach Dallas Ferguson was named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Coach of the Year. Ferguson beat all expectations as the CCHA coaches' poll at the beginning of the season put the Nanooks in 11th place. He is only the third first-year coach to be named CCHA Coach of the Year.

Nanook hockey senior goalie Chad Johnson was named the CCHA Player of the Year. Johnson is the first Nanook to win the award. Johnson is also a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker award and has been named the CCHA Goaltender of the Year, the Perani Cup Champion and a CCHA All-Conference First Team member.

Nanook hockey finished fourth in the CCHA championships held March 20 – 21 in Detroit. The Nanooks lost to Michigan 3-1 March 20 and to Northern Michigan 2-0 March 21.

Chancellor Rogers has formed a new Parking Advisory Committee for UAF. The committee is charged with looking at the operations of UAF parking services and making recommendations for improved services. Scott McCrea, director of Marketing and Communications, is chairing the committee.

If you notice gas leaks, fumes or vapors in your area, do not activate fire alarm pull stations or touch any light switches or electrical equipment. In an emergency, call 911 and clear the area if asked to do so by the dispatcher. Safety information is located in the back cover of your phone directory and online.

The UA Wellness program, UA Health in Action, is hosting free biometric screenings Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, March 23 – April 30. Register for your 10-minute screening online. UA faculty and staff will receive $50 for entering their biometric data in the Get the Point program through April 30. This incentive is for participation, not results. Those who reach Tier I in the Get the Point program will receive an additional $50. Both $50 incentives are compliments of the UA Joint Health Care Committee.

Cooperative Extension Service released the new DVD, Seed Starting with Mara Bacsujlaky. The DVD covers all aspects of seed starting for the home gardener, from planning to transplanting.

Tanana District 4-H is accepting applications for the 4-H International Youth Exchange program for families with children ages 10-15 who are interested in hosting a Japanese boy or girl for a few weeks this summer. The program provides an opportunity to learn about Japanese culture. For more information call 474-2420.

Alaska Sea Grant hosted shrimp fishermen from South Carolina March 18 – 21 to learn about direct marketing techniques in a fisheries exchange with Alaska fishermen.

UAF's blog directory showcases ideas, activities and people across the UAF community. Departments, students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to submit their own blogs for inclusion in the directory.

Career Expo 2009 takes place Wednesday, March 25 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Students from all majors will be able to meet potential employers. For more information contact Career Services at 474-7596 or careerservices@uaf.edu.

A Business and Education Program Showcase featuring faculty from the University of Alaska Southeast will be held at the TVC Center on Thursday, March 26, from noon – 2 p.m. and 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The showcase is for students interested in UAS' online master of business administration, master of public administration, and master of arts in teaching or education. The Financial Aid Office presents Financial $ense, a series of workshops held each Thursday at 1 p.m. in 413 Gruening. The workshops are open to all faculty, staff and students. Stretching Your Dollar takes place March 26. For more information call 474-7256.

The UAF Alumni Association presents a Knowledge Industry Networking event, "Public Speaking in Three Easy Steps," by Libbie Martin Thursday, March 26, at 5:30 p.m. at Northern Latitudes in the Westmark Hotel.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will host an open house for the proposed Yankovich/Miller Hill multiuse path Thursday, March 26, from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Patty Center gym. SOM's Business Leader of the Year banquet honoring Dr. Cary Keller, the 2009 SOM Business Leader of the Year, takes place Friday, March 27 at 6 p.m. at the Princess Riverside Lodge. Tickets are $50, $40 for students and $475 for a table. For more information call 474-7461.

Righteous Ladies Rebelling is sponsoring a production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues, in support of the 2009 V-Day Campaign. Performances will be Friday – Saturday, March 27 – 28, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 29, at 2 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 students, seniors and military. Proceeds will benefit the Interior Center for Non-Violent Living and the Resource Center for Parents and Children's Stevie's Place.

The Alaska PreMed Summit takes place Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in 109 Butrovich by teleconference. The summit provides information about preparing for, applying to, and financing medical school along with other information about becoming a physician. The event is free. The ArtNorth workshop, co-sponsored by the UAF Art Department, presents How to Successfully Photograph and Digitally Process Your Own Artwork by Inari Kylanen, TVC, and Da-ka-xeen Mehner, CLA, Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 general admission and $5 students and ArtNorth members. The University Women's Association Spring Recycle Sale takes place March 28 from noon - 2 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. The sale is open to all. Proceeds fund UWA scholarships.

The Admissions Office is hosting UAF Inside Out Monday, March 30, from 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. This event is an open house geared for high school juniors and seniors and their parents.

Kuskokwim Campus Director Mary Pete was honored as Person of the Year in the Tundra Women's Coalition Yukegtaaraat Program Saturday, March 21, in Bethel. The award is given annually to someone who exemplifies the Yukegtaaraat values of commitment to self-respect, family, community, equality, peace, self-determination and the worth of every person.
