Gov. Palin has appointed Kenneth Fisher and reappointed Mary K. Hughes to the UA Board of Regents.
Chancellor Rogers will host a community forum Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center Auditorium.

Kris Racina, Statewide Labor and Employee Relations, has accepted the position of UAF HR director. Racina will begin her new duties in March.
Jonathan Shambare has been hired as the new director of the Design and Construction Department in Facilities Services.
Kate Tshikalu-John is the new employee relations, compensation and benefits assistant at UAF HR.
Shiva Hullavarad and Nilima Hullavarad, both OEM, were selected to present their SENOOK, Robust and Reliable Pressure, Temperature and Gas Sensor for Extreme Harsh Environments technology at the World’s Best Technology showcase March 24 – 25 in Arlington, Texas.
The UAF Speaking Center is now open to all UAF students. The Speaking Center is run by the Department of Communication and provides assistance with topic selection, presentation organization, and presentation practice. The UA Health In Action program began a new Get the Point incentive program Feb. 1. There are new prizes and a more user-friendly tracking system.
UAF’s Grapevine website is designed to dispel rumors, clarify misconceptions and clear up misunderstandings about UAF topics of a general nature. If you want to find out if something you’ve heard is true, submit your rumor and find out.
L.I.F.E. fitness classes are now offered in water aerobics, yoga and circuit training at the Student Rec Center for $5 per session.

The 2009 Science for Alaska Lecture Series takes place Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Westmark Gold Room. “Is Alaska’s Oil Age Ending? Living Energy Efficient” by Rich Seifert, CES, takes place Feb. 3 and “Out of the Blues: Shaking Off Seasonal Affective Disorder” by Suzanne Womack Strisik, UAA, takes place Feb. 10.

Alaska Sea Grant is sponsoring A Sustainable Future: Fish Processing Byproducts conference in Portland, Ore., Wednesday – Thursday, Feb. 25 – 26. The conference will focus on creating new products from protein meals, fish oils and bone, and other seafood processing leftovers.

The UAF Osher Lifelong Learning Institute received a $1 million gift from the Bernard Osher Foundation to provide a permanent and stable source of funding for the program.

Nanook men’s basketball takes on Seattle Pacific Thursday, Feb. 5 and Western Washington, Saturday, Feb. 7, both games are at 7 p.m. in the Patty Center gym.
