The UA Museum of the North director search committee has selected four finalists for the museum director position. The finalists, Keith Crandall, Brigham Young University; Carol Deibel, Museum of New Zealand; Brendan Kelly, National Science Foundation; and Gregory McDonald, National Park Service's Museum Management Program, will visit Fairbanks for interviews and each will give a public presentation.
Ashton Compton, a UAF junior political science major, was selected by Gov. Palin to serve as the student regent to the UA Board of Regents. Compton will serve a two-year term.

Warming weather is creating some hazardous areas around campus including ice in parking lots and on walkways. If you notice any problems in your building or around campus, call Facilities Services at 474-7000 to report the problem.
Open enrollment begins April 15 for the year July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010. UAF Benefits is offering open enrollment question and answer sessions for interested departments. To set up a session for your department contact Shelly Hall at 474-6205 or shelly.hall@uaf.edu.
The UA Compensation Task Force is seeking employee input on the draft recommendations for changes to the university's compensation regulations to address issues with the UA pay system that concerned the Legislature. UAF HR reminds employees they can donate sick leave to the leave share program. The program helps employees who have a catastrophic medical event and have used all their paid leave. Employees can donate sick leave anytime to the leave bank or a designated eligible recipient. For more information call 474-7700.
UAF faculty and staff employed for the entire calendar year 2009 will have a total of 27 pay periods. This has tax implications and could affect contribution limits to tax-deferred annuities. Also, the federal tax withholding rates have decreased due to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
TVC's Bunnell House Early Childhood Lab School completed a licensing visit from the state of Alaska.
Naomi Ogden is the new human resources technician at TVC. Ogden previously served as an administrative assistant in TVC's aviation and auto programs.
February FAFSA Frenzy 2009 resulted in an increase of 22 percent over February 2008 of students filling out the FAFSA, which is required for many financial aid programs.

Renovations to the TVC Center's exterior are underway. TVC will remain open during construction. Part of the west parking lot will be closed off and some offices will be moved to accommodate the renovation.

The next training dates are Tuesday, April 7, from 12:30 – 2 p.m. in 301 Rasmuson Library and Thursday, April 23, from 1 – 2 p.m. in 340 Rasmuson Library. The Chapman Chair Lecture Series presents two lectures by Onno Oncken; Geophysical Images and Real Rocks from Seismogenic Coupling Zones and Subduction Channels of Convergent Margins - Chile and The Alps Wednesday, April 8, from 10 a.m. – noon, and How Do Mass Flux Models Relate with Deformation of Convergent Margins – Evidence from Ancient Orogen, Reflection Seismic Patterns and Analogue Modeling Friday, April 10, from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. Both lectures take place in 306 Reichardt Building. The Science Potpourri, CNSM's annual open house, takes place Saturday, April 11, from noon – 5 p.m. in the Reichardt Building. Participants of all ages can slice a rock in two, create a flood in a miniature Monopoly town, learn to make slime, investigate mystery beads and watch a robot in action. The potpourri is free and open to the public. Free parking is available behind the Reichardt Building.
A foreign languages potluck, hosted by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, takes place Wednesday, April 15, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish and enjoy this international potluck. For more information call 474-7396.
The 2009 Authors' Reception, hosted by Chancellor Rogers and the Rasmuson Library, takes place Friday, April 17, from 4 – 5 p.m. on level six of the library.
