The UA Museum of the North is interviewing candidates for the museum director position. Keith Crandall will present "Museums, Education and Research: An Intimate Relationship" Wednesday, April 22 and Greg McDonald will present "Sloth on the Beach: An Unusual Lineage of Aquatically Adapted Ground Sloths from Peru" Tuesday, April 28. Both presentations are free and take place at 6 p.m. in the museum auditorium.
Higher education consultant Terry MacTaggart will visit UAF April 24 – 29 to begin an external review initiated by Chancellor Rogers. He is also scheduled to visit the Northwest Campus in Nome Thursday, April 30. For more information contact Bob Shefchik at 474-7489 or rrshefchik@alaska.edu.
UAF is projected to spend more than $19 million a year on energy by the year 2025. Help reduce costs by turning off computers, copiers, printers, fax machines and lights; use compact fluorescent bulbs in desk lamps; unplug portable heaters and reduce the number of personal refrigerators and microwaves. Do a little, save a WATT!
OIT is planning its annual IT days, TechFest '09, for Sept. 23 – 25, and would like input into planning the event. Please take a brief survey about areas of interest and suggestions for presenters and presentations.

SFOS, UA President Hamilton and Chancellor Rogers will host the dedication of the Lena Point Fisheries Building Tuesday, April 28, at 11 a.m. at the facility in Juneau. SpringFest 2009 takes place Thursday – Saturday, April 23 – 25. The fest begins with a barbeque April 23 at noon in front of Wood Center. Other SpringFest events include a mud volleyball tournament April 24 from noon – 4 p.m. and an outdoor concert by Portugal The Man April 25 at 6 p.m. at the SRC. Theatre UAF presents Caligari: Alaska by Anatoly Antohin, based on the silent movie The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Friday – Saturday, April 24 – 25 at 8:15 p.m. and Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, military or UAF employees and $7 for students with ID. Mary Mangusso, the UAF Arthur T. Fathauer Chair of History, presents a free lecture "Anthony Dimond, Alaska and National Security," Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Noel Wien Library.
Staff Appreciation Day, presented by Staff Council and Chancellor Rogers to honor and recognize staff members for their service and work efforts at UAF, takes place Monday, May 11, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. This all-day event includes continental breakfast, keynote address, personal and professional sessions, barbecue, awards and longevity awards ceremony, ice cream social and a small health and volunteer opportunities fair. Amy Snider, political science major and Honors Program member, and Zazell Staheli, biology major, each received a Morris K. Udall Scholarship. The two UAF students were among 80 2009 Udall scholars selected from more than 500 nominated candidates.
Civil engineering student Charles Degerlund took second place in the technical paper competition at the American Society of Civil Engineers Pacific Northwest Student Conference.
