G-Day, the kickoff event for Google Apps @ UA, takes place Tuesday, April 14, from noon – 3 p.m. at the Wood Center. Google Apps @ UA is e-mail with an entire suite of collaboration tools powered by Google. Sign up to get an account, see demonstrations and eat some cake. All UAF students, faculty and staff, and UA Statewide staff are eligible.
The UA Board of Regents met April 8 – 9 in Valdez. Among other actions the regents approved a new Ph.D. program in indigenous studies and a certificate in allied health-pre-nursing at UAF. Projects approved included upgrades at the Northwest Campus and proposed energy technology building at the Fairbanks campus.
Higher education consultant Terry MacTaggart will visit UAF April 24 – 29 to begin an external review initiated by Chancellor Rogers. He is also scheduled to visit the Northwest Campus in Nome Thursday, April 30. For more information contact Bob Shefchik at 474-7489 or rrshefchik@alaska.edu.

UAF saw a 2.3 percent increase in student credit hours and a 1.3 percent increase in student head count from spring 2008 to spring 2009. UAF was the only campus in the UA system to see an increase in both areas.

Chancellor Rogers has authorized an extension to Sept. 30 for supervisory staff to complete the Supervisory Training Program core courses. For more information and a list of FAQs visit the training website.
Judson Scott was named the new superintendent at the UAF Matanuska Experiment Farm.
KUAC will conduct a national search for a new general manager this spring. Vice Chancellor for Advancement Jake Poole will serve as interim general manager while the search is underway.
Summer Sessions is offering a new course, Alaska Agriculture in the Classroom. The class will prepare teachers to integrate the science of agriculture into their lesson plans. The course will be offered June 2 – 4 at the Fairbanks Experiment Farm.
UA Press recently published Ultimate Americans: Point Hope, Alaska, 1826 – 1909 by Tom Lowenstein.
Alaska Agriculture Day is Tuesday, May 5. SNRAS is working with the Fairbanks Soil and Water Conservation District to promote classroom activities and is seeking volunteers to read books and plant seeds with local schoolchildren. UAF students are invited to enter the Georgeson Botanical Garden park bench art contest. The winner will receive $250 and paint a park bench with their design. The contest is based on a Shel Silverstein poem. Proposals are due by Wednesday, April 15. For more information call 474-6921.

The annual UAF Undergraduate Research Symposium, sponsored by the Center for Research Services, takes place Wednesday, April 15, at 4 p.m. at the UA Museum of the North. Ten undergraduate students will present their research. A reception and graduate student poster session will be held in the museum lobby. The UA Museum of the North is celebrating Archaeology Month with a lecture, "St. Lawrence Island Archaeology," by museum researcher Chris Houlette Thursday, April 16, at 7 p.m. Admission is free. The museum also presents the Saturday Family Program Traces from the Past April 18, from 9 a.m. – noon for ages 7 – 12 with an adult. Attendance is $15 per child/adult pair. The UAF Students Who Enjoy Economic Thinking club is hosting U.S. Sen. Mark Begich Friday, April 17, from 1 – 2 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. Sen.
