The GI’s unmanned aircraft system undertook three test flights over Puget Sound, Wash., in October. The UAS was launched from the NOAA ship Oscar Dyson to demonstrate its ability to collect data in remote locations. NOAA scientists hope to use the UAS to study ice-associated seals in the Bering Sea in spring 2009.

The UA Museum of the North presents a screening and discussion with the filmmaker of Eating Alaska, a documentary by Sitkan Ellen Frankenstein Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Admission is free. For more information call 474-7505.

King of Fish, a lecture and book signing co-sponsored by the UA Museum of the North and the Alaska Quaternary Center, takes place Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the museum. Admission is free. Theatre UAF presents The Laramie Project, by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project, directed by Carrie Baker Friday – Saturday, Nov. 14 – 15 at 8:15 p.m., Friday Nov. 21 at 8:15 p.m., Saturday Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., and Sunday Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Salisbury Theatre. A panel discussion “Live and Let Live: The Local Context of the Laramie Project,” will take place following the 2 p.m. matinee performance Saturday, Nov. 22. Admission is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, military or UAF employees and $7 for students with ID. For more information call 474-7751.
Nanook Traditions' International Education Week is Monday – Friday, Nov. 17 – 21. Many events are planned throughout the week including a map gallery, the Margaret Mead Film Festival and the Multicultural & International Expo. Alaska Nanook women’s basketball takes on Georgian Court College Friday, Nov. 14 and Alumni Saturday, Nov. 15. Both games take place at 7 p.m. in the Patty Center gym.
The Alaska Nanook athletic events scores from last week are: Home games – women’s volleyball vs Montana State-Billings, 1-3; hockey vs Michigan, 4-1 and 2-3; men’s basketball vs Alumni, 94-71.
