Essential Elements

Communication and training are essential elements to any service program. This is particularly true in Financial Services. In January, we began monthly meetings among the fiscal and executive officers at UAF. The purpose of these meetings is to reinforce regular operating procedures, clarify problem areas that arise during the course of daily business and discuss changes in procedures and policies.

Our goal is to provide information and recommendations before items become a problem. We are trying to adopt a philosophy of "forward thinking" in all our actions in Financial Services.

Because of our initial success with this forum, we are initiating another monthly meeting for research administrators with sponsored programs. As the complexities of this field grow, it is imperative that we share information on any policy changes both within the university and externally. This meeting will be held in the Board of Regents Conference Room on March 21, from 2 to 4 p.m.

In addition to the monthly meetings, Financial Services is starting the Alaska Airlines EasyBiz Program which is an online airline-ticketing program. EasyBiz can be set up and accessed by way of a secure Web site and customized to fit your department needs. For an outline of program highlights, visit the Alaska Airlines Web page at https://easybiz.alaskaair.com/ssl/signin/EasyBizInfo.asp.
