>Extension is hosting wood burning presentations Sept. 21 - 24 in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Palmer, Sitka and Juneau. Topics will include residential wood boilers; choosing a wood stove; comparing pellets, chips and logs; emissions and particulates; greenhouse heat; biochar; and wood care. These events are free. >The 2017 Invasive Species Workshop will take place in Anchorage Oct. 24-26. The conference is intended for discussing invasive species management activities within the state and offers expert presentations about emerging invasive species science and management issues. >As part of a continued UAF centennial celebration, the Mat-Su/Copper River District Office is offering a free workshop on growing grains in the garden on Thursday, Sept. 21. The workshop will cover growing crops such as hulless barley, wheat, hulless oats, rye, buckwheat, dry field peas, canola, oilseed sunflowers, flax and more in a backyard garden. Taught by agronomist Bob Van Veldhuizen, the workshop is free of charge, but space is limited. Please call 745-3360 for more information and to register.
