Monitoring invasive plant infestations is crucial for an effective management
program. At the national level the North American Weed Management Association
NAWMA
has developed a inventory and data collection protocol i.e. NAWMA
standards.
Alaska has
developed a statewide inventory system. The Alaska
Exotic Plant Information Clearing House (AKEPIC) Mapping Project was
initiated in 2004 as a shared idea between collaborators and the U.S.
Geological Survey’s Alaska Science Center Geographic Analysis and
Monitoring Program. The collaborators' manual is on line. It provides
information on three critical components of field collection, compiling
data and using regional databases and maps. Contact information for the
developer can be found at the AKEPIC site.
