Professor of Soil Science, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Chien-Lu Ping served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1982 to 2015; and

WHEREAS Dr. Ping was widely respected for the depth of expertise that he brought to Alaska Soil Geography, Soil Genesis and Classification and other courses; and successfully advised and mentored numerous graduate students at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels; and

WHEREAS Dr. Ping has been a highly regarded researcher who authored numerous publications; and who has made important contributions to management and understanding of cold soils in Alaska and throughout the world, for which he received international recognition as a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America and an invited speaker at numerous conferences; and

WHEREAS Dr. Ping served on many departmental and University committees; and has been a long-term member of the National Soil Taxonomy Committee and a representative to the National Cooperative Soil Survey Program in Alaska, among numerous other national and international working groups and committees;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Chien-Lu Ping for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Ping and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Chien-Lu Ping as Professor of Soil Science, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Chien-Lu Ping, and conveyed to Dr. Ping on this 8th day of May, 2016.
