MS. JENNY BELL-JONES

Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development Academic Chair, Emeritus

WHEREAS Ms. Jenny Bell-Jones has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and University and public service from 1999 to 2016; and

WHEREAS Ms. Bell-Jones initially taught as an adjunct professor for the welding program, and after advancing her own education through the Paralegal Studies and Rural Development programs, became an outstanding faculty member in the Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development, where she developed many new courses and revitalized the curriculum to encompass current issues in rural Alaska; and

WHEREAS Ms. Bell-Jones mentored and advised countless students; and demonstrated a special ability to reach out to and connect with nontraditional students; and served as the chair of the Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development, working tirelessly to facilitate the work of the department and guiding and inspiring department faculty with her compassion, wisdom and strength; and

WHEREAS Ms. Bell-Jones has served the community as a dedicated volunteer for the Festival of Native Arts and the Effie Kokrine Charter School, among many other activities;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Ms. Jenny Bell-Jones for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Ms. Bell-Jones and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Ms. Jenny Bell-Jones as Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development Academic Chair, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Ms. Jenny Bell-Jones, and conveyed to Ms. Bell-Jones on this 8th day of May, 2016.
